Beautifully written, Miss Sara. Funny how later in life we go back to our beginnings and cherish that which we thought nothing of at the time. Grandmothers, little feet watering plants, life, tomatoes. It helps me to think back as well and remember the things my Grandmother taught me. Thanks for the reminder!!!

What a great story, Sara! To replace regret (of not knowing then) with willingness (to learn now) is a wonderful thing! Thank you for reminding us that it is never too late to learn something new (or old). Cheers to Alabama Chanin for encouraging us to slow down, listen to the ghosts of our mothers, aunts, and grandmothers, and to each other. Thank you for nurturing a longing in us to mesh the ways of the past with our values we hold in the present. It is important we should pass along these things to our future generations.

Sara, I absolutely understand where you are coming from….I am in my early 40′s and have decided it’s time to learn all the things I’ve missed out on! I am starting off in the deepend of fear: Tap dancing, in a class in front of people who’ve be doing it for years. My first class was a disaster, my second class is Thirsday and I can’t wait to get the steps wrong, fumble, and generally make a fool out of myself, because its a blast!!!
Keep on cooking, growing, and sewing!!!!!!!
