SPIRAL COFFEE COZIES

SPIRAL COFFEE COZY

You can add texture to anything (and everything) with our Spiral embroidery technique from Alabama Studio Sewing + Design. Personally, I would like to have a Spiral embroidered couch; however, my production manager just shakes his head.

Perhaps a quicker and easier place to start is with a set of the Spiral embroidered coffee cozies shown above.

Instructions for this coffee cozy below.

Spiral stencil available to download from our Resources page here.

Spiral embroidery instructions available in Alabama Studio Sewing + Design.

Time is your own.

SPIRAL COFFEE COZY PATTERN

SPIRAL COFFEE COZY

Supplies to make one cozy (though we recommend making more to share coffee with friends.)

Coffee Cozy pattern (download from our Resource Downloads page)
Paper scissors
Scrap of medium-weight organic cotton jersey fabric for top layer (about 11” x 4”)
Scrap of medium-weight organic cotton jersey fabric for back layer (about 11” x 4”)
Textile paint
Button Craft thread
Embroidery floss
Embroidery scissors
Hand-sewing needle
Basic sewing supplies: fabric scissors, pins, needlestailor’s chalkrulerrotary cutter, and Alabama Studio Sewing + Design: Contains the basic sewing and embroidery techniques (including spiral artwork and embroidery instructions) necessary to complete the project.

Cut two of the Coffee Cozy pattern.

Lay your two cut Coffee Cozy pattern pieces out with right sides facing up and one on top of the other. Pin together securely.

Follow instructions for Spirals embroidery technique on page 83 of Alabama Studio Sewing + Design to stitch the spirals with embroidery floss.

Once you’ve completed your embellishment, overlap the ends of the cozy 1”. Join together using a double layer of Button Craft thread with a straight stitch 1/8″-1/4″ from the edge.

Start at the top of your overlap seam and continue your straight stitch down and around the bottom of the cozy, also 1/8″-1/4″ from the edge. Make sure to sew through all four overlapped layers. Knot off.

Finish with a straight stitch around the top of the cozy, 1/8″-1/4″ from the edge, also sewing through all four overlapped layers.
