DIY Chair Workshop @ Southern Makers, Montgomery, AL
Join us Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at Southern Makers for an Alabama Chanin DIY Chair Workshop.

This workshop offers guests the opportunity to work with Natalie and team to repurpose and redesign a selection of (gently) used chairs using fabric scraps, paint and stencils, markers, nails, and assortment of tools. This workshop models itself after Alabama Chanin’s Makeshift workshop series: Crafting Design, featured in the New York Times. Conducted in a casual, open forum, the workshop will cover a wide range of topics from craft, design, and DIY. This workshop is open to all skill levels. Guests will enjoy inspiring instruction and provided materials. Purchase of this workshop includes materials, tools, instruction from the Alabama Chanin team and one ticket for admission to Southern Makers.

Two-Hour Workshop + Afternoon Tea @ The Factory

This workshop is suited to beginner and experienced sewers alike. Work with Natalie and the Alabama Chanin team to create a project from our Alabama Stitch Book, Alabama Studio Style, or Alabama Studio Sewing + Design. After the workshop, join us in The Factory Café for Afternoon Tea (a selection of gourmet sandwiches, savory pastries, Southern-inspired sweets, and an assortment of teas and coffees). The cost of the workshop includes materials, instruction, high tea, stories, and laughter.

Studio Week @ The Factory

This week-long workshop invites guests into Alabama Chanin’s newly expanded studio for a total immersion into our philosophies, process, materials, and products. Learn a range of techniques in design basics, hand sewing, stencil design and creation, airbrush and garment stenciling, fit and pattern alterations, plus discussion, and critique.

Cost of the workshop includes 6 yards of 100% organic cotton jersey, access to airbrush and fabric paint, selection of garment patterns and stencils, yoga sessions, a continental breakfast and catered lunch each weekday, a hearty brunch on Saturday, and non-alcoholic drinks all week.

Weekend Away Workshop @ Blackberry Farm
Join us this summer at Blackberry Farm in Tennessee for Alabama Chanin’s Weekend Away Workshop. The workshop includes all of the materials necessary to complete a custom do-it-yourself garment, incredible meals prepared onsite, beautiful settings, special guests and gifts from the Alabama Chanin studio.

Participants will work with Natalie and team to create a custom garment or project of their choice from the Alabama Chanin Studio Book series or a special selection from our archives. The workshop can be tailored to any skill level. Our guests will be immersed in the Alabama Chanin philosophy as they learn various stitching techniques, tips, and tricks. Conducted in a casual, open forum, the workshop will cover a wide range of topics.

Guests will enjoy inspiring instruction, provided materials, Blackberry Farm cuisine, laughter, and fellowship.

Studio Weekend @ The Factory

This workshop opens our studio doors at The Factory in Florence, Alabama, and allows participants to work with Natalie, our in-house team, couture patterns and stencil library. Participants create a garment or project of their choice. We offer a range of options that can be tailored to any skill level. The cost of the workshop includes materials, welcome cocktail on Friday, lunch on Saturday, and Sunday morning brunch.

Fashion by Hand @ Nashville, TN

Join Anna Maria Horner and Natalie Chanin for a weekend of hand-making fashion, including the opportunity to experiment with jersey fabrics. Guests will learn how to cut and sew garments, as well as how to create beautiful fabrics through embellishment and design. The class is guided by both designers’ love of fashion and the handmade. Anna Maria will be focusing on machine-sewing with knits, and Natalie will demonstrate our hand-sewing techniques – and melding the two.

Includes a Studio Style DIY Trunk Show of examples from Alabama Chanin to inspire sewing (and shopping). Students will find value in the raw and simple, as well as ornate. Both designers will share traditional techniques throughout the weekend.
