Lonnie Holley: Two Albums
At age 63, Lonnie Holley released his second musical album, Keeping a Record of It. Released on the Dust-to-Digital label in Atlanta, Georgia, Holley's music is largely improvised, created in reaction to his surroundings and as much performance art as music. His visual artwork is created in much the same way, often repurposing found materials into larger works with deeper meaning. Holley's first album, Just Before Music, comes with a 20-page booklet featuring lyric transcriptions and his’s own artwork. Purchase both of Lonnie Holley's albums at a special package price here only. Read more about the artist/musician on our journal.
Sign Painters, the first anecdotal history of the craft, features stories and photographs of more than two dozen sign painters working in cities throughout the United States. In 2010, Filmakers Faythe Levine, coauthor of Handmade Nation, and Sam Macon began documenting the dedicated, skilled practitioners of this arform, which has otherwise been replaced by computer-designed, die-cut vinyl and inkjet printers.
