Rosanne Cash

Rosanne Cash keeps her head down and shows up for work. She has recorded eleven No. 1 singles, blurring the genres of country, rock, roots, and pop. She has received eleven Grammy nominations and, in 1985, she won the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me.” A prolific writer, she has authored the books Bodies of Water (Hyperion, 1996), Penelope Jane: A Fairy’s Tale (Harper-Collins, 2006), edited the book Song Without Rhyme (Hyperion, 2001), and recently penned her memoir Composed (Viking, 2010). Rosanne’s prose and essays have appeared in the New York Times, The Oxford-American, New York Magazine, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Martha Stewart Living and various other publications.

This panel discussion allows speakers to share their experiences with the intersection of craft and fashion, and to reflect on what we can learn from DIY integration with fashion, as well as music, product design, city planning, and education.
Panelists include Cathy Bailey–Owner/Designer, HEATH Ceramics; Rosanne Cash–Singer/Songwriter; Natalie Chanin–Author/Designer, Alabama Chanin; and Maria Cornejo–Designer, Zero + Maria Cornejo. The panel will be moderated by Andrew Wagner–DIY Design Editor, Columnist, Director–Krrb with Jessamyn Hatcher– Professor Global Studies–NYU.

Melanie Falick is the publishing director of STC Craft/Melanie Falick Books, an imprint of Stewart, Tabori & Chang and Abrams Books. The former editor-in-chief of Interweave Knits magazine, she is the author of five books (with over 400,000) copies in print, including Weekend Knitting, Knitting in America, and Kids Knitting.
