Project Threadways records, studies, and explores the history of the textile industry in Florence and across the American South. The goal is to accurately and respectfully retell the story of textiles—from farm to finished product—and the way the act of making textiles shaped the lives of the communities and the individuals of those communities. This talk will introduce Project Threadways, give an overview of the history of textile production in Florence, and then shift to a discussion about the oral history component of the project, focusing on workers from Tee-Jays, which at one point employed over 2000 people in Florence.
